Sundowns Seek Redemption Against Richards Bay
Mamelodi Sundowns return to action this Saturday evening, 27 September, determined to put their season back on track when they face Richards Bay at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria, Gauteng.
The titleholders have made an unsteady start in their pursuit of a ninth successive Premier Soccer League (PSL) crown. Three draws and a recent 1-0 defeat to Golden Arrows have left them with 18 points from nine matches, and sitting in second place on the PSL table.
With rivals Sekhukhune United leading on 20 points and with a game in hand, Sundowns know victory is essential to keep the pressure on.
Richards Bay, meanwhile, appear to be in stronger form after a difficult opening. Following three straight losses at the start of the campaign, they have gone unbeaten in their last five games, climbing to eighth place with 11 points from eight matches. Their defensive discipline has been consistent, but facing Sundowns away from home will be their sternest test yet.
History is firmly against the visitors: Sundowns have won each of their last five meetings without conceding a goal. With the title race tightening, the home side will be eager not only to secure three points but also to make a statement of intent.
